Phil Hartman bio pic in development with Toronto's Carousel Pictures
Jonas Chernick is attached to write, co-produce, and play a supporting role in Starring Phil Hartman, a feature film currently in development with producer Tyler Levine's Carousel Pictures, as originally reported in Variety. Jason Priestley is attached to direct the film, which is slated for a summer 2016 shoot. Telefilm Canada and Cogeco are supporting the development of the film, which is a fully authorized story, to be made with the complete support of the Hartman estate. Phil Hartman was best known for his many years on Saturday Night Live, NewsRadio, and voicing many characters on The Simpsons. Less known is the fact that he was involved in the creation of the Pee Wee Herman universe, and co-wrote the screenplay for Pee Wee's Big Adventure. Hartman was tragically shot to death by his wife, Brynn Omdahl, a few hours before she took her own life, in 1998.
