Edmonton Sets James vs His Future Self As Opening Night Gala

Co-written by star Jonas Chernick and director Jeremy LaLonde, the film follows an ambitious scientist who is visited by an older man claiming to be his future self.
The Edmonton International Film Festival (EIFF) has selected James Vs His Future Self as its Opening Night Gala film.
Co-written by star Jonas Chernick (My Awkward Sexual Adventure) and director Jeremy LaLonde (The Go-Getters), the feature follows a scientist obsessed with becoming the first time traveler, who is visited by an eccentric older man claiming to be his future self.
James Vs His Future Self is produced by Chernick from Banana-Moon Sky Films, JoBro Productions' Jonathan Bronfman and Neophyte Productions' Jordan Walker. In addition to Chernick, whose acting credits also include The Best Laid Plans and Cinema of Sleep, the film stars Daniel Stern (Shrill), Cleopatra Coleman (The Last Man on Earth), Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under) and Tara Spencer-Nairn (Corner Gas).
Set to open the 33rd annual festival on September 26, 2019, the Sudbury, ON-shot sci-fi comedy marks both LaLonde and Chernick's latest film to be part of EIFF.
Prior to this, three of LaLonde's past films – How To Plan An Orgy In a Small Town (2015), Sex After Kids (2013) and The Untitled Works of Paul Shepard (2010) – all premiered at the festival, with both Sex After Kids and How To Plan An Orgy In a Small Town nabbing prizes. Meanwhile, Chernick's Borealis previously screened at EIFF in 2015.
Last May it was announced that Crave (previously The Movie Network) had acquired the Canadian TV rights to James Vs His Future Self, via a deal negotiated with Canadian distributor Northern Banner Releasing.
The Edmonton International Film Festival runs from Sept. 26 to Oct. 5, 2019.
