Filmmaker Jesse Zigelstein has begun filming his second feature film, Negative Capability, produced under his banner Motion Offense Productions.
Production is underway in Toronto and will continue filming until early November, according to a news release. The film is written and directed by Zigelstein.
Lauren Saarimaki (Streams Flow From a River) serves as co-producer, with Tony Wosk (Levels) executive producing and also handling negotiations with distributors and sales agents. Production was privately financed.
Wosk also handled sales for Zigelstein’s 2018 debut feature Nose to Tail.
The plot of Negative Capability follows a stalled novelist, played by Jonas Chernick (The End of Sex), grappling with a difficult divorce and the challenges of middle age, and includes themes of love, sex, friendship, the search for meaning and the possibility of renewal.
The cast includes Sara Canning (War for the Planet of the Apes), Romi Shraiter (Ginny & Georgia), Lauren Collins (Degrassi: The Next Generation), Gord Rand (Orphan Black), Athena Karkanis (Manifest), Tommie-Amber Pirie (James vs. His Future Self), Sugith Varughese (Kim’s Convenience), Marianna Phung (Tokens) and Mimi Kuzyk (Workin’ Moms).
Chernick is represented by Paul Hemrend of Edna Talent Management.
